Formerly Jamaica’s opposition leader, Portia Simpson Miller (PNP) was sworn in on the 5th Jan 2012. She’s promises economic ‘growth and development with job creation’, to reduce the debt, probably through internationally trendy ‘austerity’ measures. And - like PJ Patterson - she has promised to make JA a republic.
