Reclaiming the L-Word: Sappho’s Daughters out in Africa ed. Alleyn Diesel (2011)

This book collects the autobiographical stories of 15 South African lesbian women, and includes a photo-essay by photographer and activist Zanele Muholi entitled ‘Thinking through lesbian rape’. The stated aim of the project was to offer African lesbians a platform to tell their own stories, to dictate the shapes and emphases of the narratives concerning their lives, sexualities and bodies.
